Realme 5
The Realme 5 was launched on 20th of August. It was launched for an initial price of rupees 10000 in India with 3gb of ram and 32 gb of rom for the base variant. It was launched within five months of the launch of it's predecessor the Realme 3. Let us see whether it is a good competitor to the Redmi Note 8 which has been covered in a different review.
Display
The Realme 5 features a 6.5 inch LCD display with 89% screen-to-body ratio. This is an increase from the old 88.30% screen-to-body ratio 6.3 inch display found on the Realme 3. It is a average display with brightness issues outdoors. But, it is a very power efficient display.
Design
The Realme 5 comes with a diamond- cut back which looks quite different in comparison to the glass slabs of 2019. It however is made of plastic and if it is made of the same material as it's predecessor it will scratch quite easily even with a case on at all times. This is a common drawback of plastic backs.
Cameras
The Realme 5 comes with a quad camera array consisting of a primary lens, wide angle, portrait as well as a macro lens. This may appear to a good deal, but when you consider that the Redmi Note 8 comes with a 48 megapixel camera it appears a step below, instead you may find it to be as competitive in some areas except for the dynamic range as the Note 8 comes with a Samsung Sensor which doesn't have the best quality. Here it comes very close to the Note 8 in most scenarios.
Performance
The Realme 5 comes with a Snapdragon 665 processor and is at par with the Note 8 from Redmi which also features the same processor. It performs quite well but does not beat out the Redmi Note 8 in any way.
Verdict
The Realme 5 comes with almost the same specs as the Redmi Note 8, but is currently priced at a discounted rate of rupees 8999 for the 3 GB 32 GB variant. The 4GB 64GB variant costs the same as the Note 8. For this price if cameras are not of the utmost importance then, I would suggest you go for the Realme 5 as it comes with another USP which is " NO ADS IN THE UI"
